Secure Computing and Networking Center (SCONCE)
The importance of security and privacy in our increasingly computerized life is difficult to overestimate. Barely a day goes by without a major news story about identity theft, privacy-eroding legislation and industry practices, spam, phishing, worms, viruses, etc. Threats to security and privacy come from an increasingly broad array of sources, including organized crime, unscrupulous advertisers, overzealous governments, political protestors, and terrorist organizations. A concerted research effort will be needed in the next one or two decades to
develop feasible and effective remedies that are effective, legal, enforceable, meaningful and acceptable for computer users.
