Cre-loxP system mouse strains - List of general, tissue-specific and inducible CRE recombinase expressing strains of mice, including reporter strains; list of available strains with conditional mutant (loxP) alleles (@Jackson Laboratory).

Searchable Cre-loxP database - The "cre-portal" at Mouse Genome Informatics (MGI) @ Jackson Lab.  Searchable databases to identify strains of mice with cre expression in specific regions.

Harwell Frozen Embryo and Sperm Archive (FESA) - Public UK archiving and distribution center for mouse strain.

Knockout Mouse Project (KOMP) Repository - The official archive and distribution center for KOMP, a major trans-NIH initiative whose goal is to generate a public resource comprised of mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells containing a null mutation in every mouse gene.

Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Centers (MMRRC) - A network composed of four regional facilities for cryopreservation and distribution of genetically modified mice.

Anatomy of the Mouse - Online access to Margaret Cook's book with diagrams describing the basic anatomy of the laboratory mouse.

Coat Colors of Mice - Online access to Willys Silvers' superb book on the genetics of mouse coat color.  Includes information on different mutant alleles that affect pigmentation and the their interaction.

Edinburgh Mouse Atlas Project (EMAP) and Gene Expression (EMAGE) - EMAP is a digital atlas and database of mouse development for spatially mapped data such as in situ gene expression and cell lineage. EMAGE is a spatial database of gene expression patterns in the developing mouse embryo.

Ensembl - The Mouse Genome Sequencing Consortium's (MGSC) website containing builds of the mouse genome.  Also has a wide range of additional resources (see 'custom tracks') that can be applied to genomes.

Europhenome Mouse Phenotyping Resource - The EuroPhenome project provides access to raw and annotated mouse phenotyping data.

Federation of International Mouse Resources (FIMRe) - A collaborating world-wide group of mouse repository and resource centers whose goal is to archive and provide strains of mice as cryopreserved embryos and gametes, ES cell lines, and live breeding stock to the research community.

Genome Scanning Service - A service to assist in production of congenic mice using genetic typing of loci throughout the mouse genome (@ Jackson Lab).

Gene Paint - a digital atlas of gene expression patterns in the mouse.

German Genetrap Consortium (GGTC) - A reference library of gene trap sequence tags (GTSTs) from insertional mutations generated in mouse ES cells.

Harwell International Center for Mouse Genetics - Facilities for mouse genetics research - molecular genetics, genomics, mutagenesis, transgenesis, and informatics. Houses one of the largest mouse genetics banks within Europe.

Japan Mouse Clinic - Integrated Searchable Database of information on Genetically Modified Mice, including phenotyping.

Knockout Mouse Project (KOMP) Repository - The official archive and distribution center for KOMP, a major trans-NIH initiative whose goal is to generate a public resource comprised of mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells containing a null mutation in every mouse gene.

Mammalian Gene Collection (MGC) - Identify full-length (open reading frame) DNA sequences and cDNA clones of expressed genes for human, mouse and rat.

MouseBook - Searchable database with free access to all the data from MRC Harwell. This includes mouse stocks in FESA (Frozen Embryo and Sperm Archive), mutants from the mutagenesis screen, the ENU DNA archive, standardized phenotyping procedures, imprinting genes and chromosome anomalies.

Mouse Diversity Genotyping Array Service - an extremely high density (>620,000 SNPs) SNP mapping service that can be used for many things including genetic quality control; copy-number variant (CNV) analysis; Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) studies.

Mouse Genetics - online version of Lee Silver's excellent book on mouse genetics, includes valuable information on strains, biology and genetics.

Mouse Genome Informatics (MGI) Database - Portal with access to data on the genetics, genomics and biology of the laboratory mouse, including tumor biology.

Mouse Genomes Project – includes genomic sequence of 17 key mouse strains as well as RNA-seq and ChIP-Seq data.

Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (WTSI) Mouse Resources Portal - Access to mouse resources from the WTSI or its collaborators, including  129S7 and C57BL6/J bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs), MICER gene targeting vectors, knock-out first conditional-ready gene targeting vectors, embryonic stem (ES) cells with gene targeted mutations or with retroviral gene trap insertions, mutant mouse lines, and phenotypic data generated from the WTSI primary screen.

Allen Mouse Brain Atlas - A portal with information on mouse brain development and homeostasis.

KOMP Phenotyping Pilot – a project at UC-Davis funded by the 2011 KOMP2 initiative (Knockout Mouse Phenotyping Project) that aims to collect detailed data from 312 mutant strains

Mouse Brain Library - High resolution images of brain slices from a range of mouse strains.

Mouse Mammary Gland Biology - Wide range of information on development, homeostasis and methods to analyze mouse mammary gland. (Hennighausen Lab @ NIH).

Mouse Phenome Database – The Jackson Laboratory’s website where detailed phenotypic data is being gathered in a standardized fashion from a wide variety of strains; includes SNP and genotype variation

Mouse Tumor Biology (MTB) Database - Provides access to mouse tumor biology data including descriptions of mouse tumors (searchable by strain and organ of origin), tumor frequency and latency data, and tumor pathology reports and images (@ Jackson Laboratory).

Mouse Virtual Necropsy - A guide to anatomic analysis of the laboratory mouse (@ UC Davis).

Pathbase - European mutant mouse pathology database. A searchable database of histopathology images from experiments on genetically manipulated mice and a reference covering mouse pathology. Images can be searched using a wide range of parameters

Visible Mouse Project - Basic information on anatomy, histology, physiology and pathology of laboratory mouse (@ UC Davis).

Cancer Databases

GeneCards - A database of human genes, their products, and their involvement in diseases (@ Weizmann Institute).

Human Protein Atlas (HPA) - Website with comprehensive information on expression patterns of gene products in human organs and cell lines.  Generated using antisera that are commercially available.  Significant amount of data on expression in tumors and cancer cell lines relative to normal tissues.

Mouse Models of Human Cancers Consortium (MMHCC) - Provides information, resources, and innovative approaches to the application of mouse models in cancer research.

NCI Cancer Genome Anatomy Project (CGAP) - Provides data for mouse and human cancer and informatics tools to determine the gene expression profiles of normal, precancerous, and cancer cells. Includes information on Pathways involved in cancer and database of molecules effective for RNAi.

NCI Cancer Genome Characterization Initiative (CGCI) - Use of new technologies to characterize genomic changes involved with different tumors.  Groups involved with the CGCI Initiative make data available through a publicly accessible database.

Sanger Cancer Genome Project (CGP) - Using the human genome sequence and mutation-detection systems, CGP identifies somatically acquired sequence variants associated with development of human cancer.

International Mammalian Genome Society - A society that fosters and stimulates research in mammalian genetics. Lists of resources are organized by individual countries' research and organisms studied.

International Society for Transgenic Technology (ISTT) - Facilitates dissemination, discussion and training of technologies and specific research used for generating and/or analysing genetically modified mice.  Has useful database of resources available for analysis of the mouse.

Trans-NIH Mouse Initiative - Provides information on funding opportunities for mouse genomics and genetics resources, mouse genomics and genetics resources, publications and courses and scientific meetings related to the mouse. Includes NIH Policy on Sharing and Distribution of Mouse Resources.
