TOPIC: The Department of Energy is inviting comments on two Recovery Act programs, Smart Grid Demonstrations and Smart Grid Investment Grants.
DEADLINE: May 6.
FUNDS: Awards will range from $500,000 to $20 million for smart grid technology deployment grants, and $100,000 to $5 million for Phasor Measurement Unit deployment grant. Cost sharing of 50 percent cost will be required.
A total of $615 million will be available for 24 to 36 Smart Grid Demonstration awards of three to five years. Cost sharing of 50 percent cost will be required.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to all types of domestic entities, except other federal agencies, Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) contractors, and certain nonprofit organizations engaged in lobbying activities.
AREAS: A smart grid aims to collect and provide the optimal amount of information necessary for customers, distributors and generators to change their behavior in a way that reduces system demands and costs, increases energy efficiency, optimally allocates and matches demand and resources to meet that demand, and increases the reliability of the grid.
