Internal Deadlines for NIH Challenge Grants
Dear Colleagues,
The Office of Research is gearing up for an unprecedented volume of grant applications in response to the federal stimulus package, beginning with the NIH Challenge Grant Program. In order to ensure that your proposal is successfully processed in time through Grants.gov, we have established some internal deadlines and will staff our offices as fully as possible through the end of April.
Research Development Officers as well as Contract and Grant Officers will be ready to help you complete your winning proposal. We hope that Schools and Departments will also have critical staff members available to assist investigators with proposal completion during April.
Please target the following dates if you are planning to submit a Challenge Grant proposal. All deadlines are at 5 p.m. on the date indicated:
Thursday March 26th: Send a brief statement of intent to or@research.uci.edu. No details about your project are required at this stage, but your statement will help us determine how many proposals to expect.
Monday April 20th: Submit draft proposals with AA forms and final budgets to your Contract and Grant Officer in Sponsored Projects by 5 p.m. PIs may continue to revise the science portion of the proposal, provided that these changes do not affect the budget.
Friday April 24th: Deadline for changes to the science portion of the proposal. No proposals will be accepted for submission after 5 p.m.
For your information, I wanted to clarify that "total" budget in the NIH announcement does include facilities and administration (indirect cost) and that your proposal budgets must be detailed (non-modular).
