Emergency Planning for Animal Research

  • ULAR has a comprehensive business continuity plan for animal care that is implemented in the event of natural disasters, building system failures, severe staff shortages or other exigencies.
  • ULAR personnel are considered campus essential personnel.
  • In the event of a reduction in campus operations, ULAR veterinary staff plan to be available for animal heath concerns in all animal use areas (both ULAR-managed and researcher-managed facilities).
  • Researchers who maintain their own animal housing facilities outside of ULAR space are advised to review their individual emergency plans for animal care as detailed in their approved animal use protocols.
  • Researchers are advised to cross-train their laboratory personnel to ensure availablilty of personnel who can continue performing experimental procedures in the event of campus emergencies.
