Center for Global Cardiometabolic Health and Nutrition
The Center for Global Cardiometabolic Health and Nutrition (CGCHN) at UC Irvine is at the forefront of addressing one of the most pressing global health challenges: cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs), including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. With over half a billion individuals affected worldwide, predominantly in low- and middle-income countries, CMDs pose significant public health challenges, which have been intensified by rapid industrialization and the COVID-19 pandemic.
CGCHN leverages advancements in genomics, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics to better understand the complex interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that contribute to CMDs. The center’s work focuses on translating these insights into effective prevention and treatment strategies that are culturally and regionally relevant.
Collaboration is a cornerstone of CGCHN’s approach. The center actively fosters partnerships among leading global institutions, supporting research, teaching, and mentorship initiatives. By uniting diverse expertise and resources, CGCHN helps build a vibrant community of researchers and healthcare professionals equipped to tackle the multifaceted challenges posed by CMDs.
