In-Kind Contributions Guidance
For Other/Current & Pending Support Disclosures
Federal researchers should disclose in-kind contributions in their Other/Current & Pending Support and annual progress reports when they engage in one or more of the following:

Research Personnel Funded by an Outside Entity
- Have research personnel in your UCI lab whose efforts are funded by an outside entity (for example, visiting scholar)

Receipt or Use of Research Resources
- Receive or access research resources (such as materials, office, data, laboratory space, equipment, supplies, etc.) that:
- Resulted or are expected to result in publications or presentations with acknowledgements or co-authorship related to the research resource OR
- Is a unique, not freely available, or high value research resource
- Receive or access research resources (such as materials, office, data, laboratory space, equipment, supplies, etc.) that:

Consulting Agreements
- Have a consulting arrangement(s) that:
- Require you to conduct research; OR
- Does not require you to perform research but is related to your research portfolio AND could impact funding, alter time or effort commitments or otherwise impact scientific integrity; OR
- Includes terms requiring you to conceal or withhold confidential financial or other ties with the consulting entity, irrespective of the duration of the engagement
- Have a consulting arrangement(s) that:

Substantive Research Collaboration
- Any collaborations involving meaningful interaction that will result or may result in acknowledgements or co-authorships in presentations or publications
- Note: You do not need to disclose collaborations where there was no direct interaction or benefit to your research (for example, if there are multiple co-authors on a publication but you only directly interacted with certain co-authors, then those certain co-authors are the only ones you would need to disclose)
- Any collaborations involving meaningful interaction that will result or may result in acknowledgements or co-authorships in presentations or publications
