International Engagements Enhanced Review

International Engagements are activities and/or relationships that involve significant and/or meaningful interaction, affiliation, collaboration, and/or exchange with a foreign entity. Those involving a country of concern should be reviewed by the Research Engagement & Compliance team prior to engaging in the activity.

Individuals considering an international engagement should complete the International Engagement Tool. Please be prepared to provide details about the proposed international engagement and upload all related documents for the Research Engagement & Compliance Team to review and provide guidance as necessary.

Countries of Concern

Democratic People's Republic of North Korea (North Korea)

Islamic Republic of Iran

People's Republic of China including Hong Kong and Macau

Qatar

Russian Federation

Saudi Arabia

United Arab Emirates

International Engagement Tool

Does your potential international engagement involve a country of concern? If so, please complete the International Engagement Tool to receive guidance on the potential risks and compliance concerns.

Institutional Engagements

Institutional international engagements are those that include UCI as a party to the activity. In cases where the institutional international engagement involves a country of concern and critical and emerging technology (see list below), a mitigation plan will be developed with the support of the Research Security & International Engagement Committee. Once the individual agrees to the proposed mitigation plan, it will be submitted to the Chancellor for review and approval. Those with the Chancellor’s approval will be submitted to the UC Office of the President for final review and approval.

Individual Engagements

Individual international engagements are those that do not include UCI as a party to the activity. The International Engagement Review will provide guidance and additional information for the individual to consider as they decide whether to proceed with the proposed international engagement.
